Dynasties have come and gone at Miami, Florida State, Florida and Oklahoma while “College GameDay” has reigned as the preeminent Saturday morning pregame show. But the ESPN franchise heads into its 37th year having undergone the most change ever going into a new season while also facing competition from Fox and its upstart “Big Noon Kickoff.”While the core of the “GameDay” lineup is back with host Rece Davis and analysts Kirk Herbstreit, Pat McAfee, Desmond Howard and Lee Corso, it will have a different look.Analyst David Pollack, reporter Gene Wojciechowski, and Senior VP of Production Lee Fitting were let go while research producer Chris “The Bear” Fallica left for Fox.Fallica had the longest tenure with “GameDay” at 29 years. Fitting had been a producer since 2004, while Pollack (11 years) and Wojciechowski (12) were longtime veterans.“We’ll see how it unfolds. I think ‘GameDay’ will always be ‘GameDay,’ but I think it will come across different this year,” Fallica said.Corso has ...Backpack exhibit, Md. football players encourage tackling mental health

Impossible to miss, they weren’t waiting to be taken to class or to a dorm. In fact, they didn’t belong to anyone at the school. The backpacks were part of a traveling visual exhibit called Send Silence Packing, which hopes to raise awareness about mental illness and suicide. Created by a nonprofit called Active Minds, those who walked through the exhibit could see each backpack told a story.Coming from the Campus Drive side of the mall, students were hit with stories of how suicide has cost people a friend or family member. FLORHAM PARK, N.J. (AP) — Aaron Rodgers added a little juice to the New York Jets’ regular-season showdown with the Giants in October. The Jets quarterback responded Thursday to comments made by Giants linebacker Jihad Ward, who said Wednesday that Rodgers and his teammates were laughing after wide receiver Randall Cobb hit safety Bobby McCain with an illegal blindside block in the teams’ preseason game last Saturday. McCain suffered a concussion.“He thought we were laughing at his teammate?” Rodgers asked. “That never happened and I think he’s making (stuff) up. I don’t care.”The play was shown on HBO’s “Hard Knocks” on Tuesday night, with Rodgers kidding with Cobb about the hit and saying he would be fined by the NFL. Also shown was Ward giving Rodgers a late shove after a pass, and the two yelling at each other — with Rodgers, who was wearing a microphone, saying: “I don’t even know who you are, bro.”Ward said Wednesday his shove of Rodgers was in retaliati...Texas guardsman suspended after wounding man in cross-border shooting, Mexico says

EL PASO, Texas (AP) — A Texas National Guard soldier has been suspended after he shot and wounded a man on the other side of the U.S. southern border last week, Mexico’s president said Thursday.Calling the shooting “a violation of international law,” President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said he received a report on the soldier’s suspension, without specifying which agency it came from. The soldier says he shot the Mexican man in defense of a migrant who the man was allegedly seeking to harm, and the soldier fired first into the air, López Obrador said at a news conference.A different account of Saturday’s shooting was given by Enrique Rodriguez, a spokesperson with the Chihuahua state prosecutor’s office, who says the 22-year-old Mexican man was shot while jogging. The man was hospitalized with a gunshot wound to the buttocks and has since been released, Rodriguez said. The Texas Department of Public Safety has confirmed it’s investigating the shooting in Ciu...La historia de Luis Rubiales, protagonista de uno de los mayores escándalos en la historia del fútbol español

Stop the presses! The Washington Post broke a bombshell story about Dementia Joe Biden yesterday.“Biden loves to tell certain stories. Some aren’t credible.”Now they tell us! Better late than never, I suppose. And at least this Post story goes against the grain of most of their “reporting” – it’s true, for one thing, unlike, say, their “deeply reported” stories about the Russian collusion hoax, which were all false. But to commemorate the Post’s belated realization that Biden is full of you-know-what, let’s go straight to the audiotape from his recent appearances. As always, all dialogue guaranteed verbatim.First, as he came out Wednesday to speak to the press, news broke of Sen. Mitch McConnell’s latest “freeze.”“I just heard literally coming out,” he said. “Mitch is a friend as you know – not a joke… I don’t know enough to know.”Isn’t that the truth? This came just before he began an incoherent discussion of the wildfires in Hawaii, which he called “storms.”“Well, but by the way, you...White man will stand trial for shooting Black teen Ralph Yarl, who went to wrong house, judge rules

By HEATHER HOLLINGSWORTH (Associated Press)KANSAS CITY, Mo. (AP) — A Missouri judge ruled Thursday that the 84-year-old white homeowner who shot a Black teenager after he mistakenly went to the man’s house must stand trial. Clay County Judge Louis Angles issued the ruling after a dozen witnesses spoke at a preliminary hearing, including Ralph Yarl, the teenager who was shot by Andrew Lester on April 13 when Yarl went to the wrong house to pick up his younger brothers. Lester, a retired aircraft mechanic, is charged with first-degree assault and armed criminal action. He previously pleaded not guilty in the shooting that shocked the country and renewed national debates about gun policies and race in America. His next court date is an arraignment, scheduled for Sept. 20.Yarl spoke softly as he testified that he was sent to pick up his twin siblings but had no phone — he’d lost it at school. The house he intended to go to was just blocks from his own home, but h...Ex-SDSU football player pleads guilty to child porn possession

LOS ANGELES (AP) — California regulators on Thursday approved a controversial proposal to greatly increase storage capacity at the site of the nation’s largest known methane leak, which sickened thousands of families and forced them from their Los Angeles homes in 2015.Despite opposition from lawmakers and nearby residents, the California Public Utilities Commission voted 5-0 to permit underground storage of up to 68.6 billion cubic feet of gas at the vast Aliso Canyon field on the northern edge of Los Angeles County as a way to guard against fuel price spikes. That’s more than a 50% increase over the current cap at the Aliso Canyon Natural Gas Facility, which is slated to be closed in 2027. It’s also near the maximum capacity of 86 billion cubic feet but within safety standards set by another state agency.“This vote is a slap in the face to the community members who have been living with the ongoing consequences of the worst gas blowout in American history,” Andrea...Latest news
