BILLINGS, Mont. (AP) — A rare attack by a river otter in southern Montana injured three women floating on inner tubes and inflicted wounds serious enough that one victim had to be airlifted to a hospital, authorities said Thursday. The attack happened near the town of Cardwell on a remote stretch of the Jefferson River, a tributary of the Missouri River that’s popular with anglers and recreational floaters. At least one otter swam up to the adult women at about 8:15 p.m. Wednesday and attacked them, said Morgan Jacobsen with Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks. The women were able to get to shore, where one of them called 911, he said. One woman’s wounds, on her face and arms, were so severe that the helicopter was used to fly her out, Jefferson County Undersheriff James Everett said. Her condition Thursday was unknown. The others had injuries to their arms.“It’s just not something you run into very often,” Everett said. “Bears do it, moose too and ocasionaly...Movie Review: Spoiler alert! Jason Statham jumps even bigger sharks in ‘Meg 2.’ (Also, dinosaurs)

Before we, ahem, dive into our review of “Meg 2,” a few fun facts on the Megalodon, the titular real-life prehistoric shark, according to some unusually detailed production notes from the studio. It weighed up to 50 tons and exceeded 60 feet in length. Its vertebrae were the size of a large dinner plate — no salad plates here! There’s “no likelihood” that any actually survived to this day (we’d feel better with “no chance,” but OK.) And, its jaw was so wide, it could swallow two adults side by side.We know what you’re thinking, and so are we: Jack and Rose could’ve BOTH fit into that jaw! Case closed. James Cameron, are you listening? Way to nip a controversy in the bud.In any case, no Jack and Rose in this film, but there are plenty of other people who get swallowed, chomped on, or masticated in “Meg 2: The Trench,” directed by Ben Wheatley, a film that screams: “Sequel! What do we do NOW?” And so there’s more, more and more. More Megs. More problems. More lu...Olympic Steel: Q2 Earnings Snapshot

Apple’s eked out a slightly higher profit last quarter even though sales dipped during the period, a showing that may not be enough to sustain investor enthusiasm that recently made the iPhone maker the first publicly held U.S. company to be valued at $3 trillion. The results released Thursday covered April through June, the third consecutive quarter that the Cupertino, California, company has posted a year-over-year decline in revenue. That’s its longest stretch of falling sales in nearly seven years. Apple also indicated revenue for the current July through September quarter is expected to decline, despite the anticipated release of the next iPhone. The disappointing forecast, coupled with the lukewarm results for the past quarter, caused Apple’s stock to fall 2% in Thursday’s extended trading. If the shares behave similarly during Friday’s regular trading session, it will push Apple’s market value below the $3 trillion threshold it eclipsed in late June.Reve...Air Transport Services: Q2 Earnings Snapshot

SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — Brandon Aiyuk’s time in coach Kyle Shanahan’s dog house is firmly in the past. The way the San Francisco 49ers offense has looked so far in training camp with Aiyuk outshining higher-profile teammates every day, he appears ready to have a breakout season and fulfill his offseason promise of having his career “take off.”“This is my fourth year in this offense,” Aiyuk said. “The work that I felt like I put in, and then also the success that I’ve had in the years, put it all together and that’s what you get for sure.”Aiyuk’s journey from a first-round pick in 2020 to being on the verge of stardom in 2023 hasn’t been a smooth one. He arrived in the NFL during the COVID offseason, limiting his practice time and ability to acclimate as a pro.He showed flashes as a rookie with 60 catches for 748 yards and five TDs in 12 games but didn’t realize how much work he needed to put in the next offseason and fell behind early in training camp...IndyCar Series moving season finale, awards to Nashville starting in 2024
