Former Denver mayoral candidate and civil rights activist Terrance Roberts will receive a $50,000 settlement to resolve allegations that Denver police pepper-sprayed him without reason during a racial justice protest in July 2020.Attorneys for Roberts filed a lawsuit based on the incident last year. The suit named the city, former Denver police Chief Paul Pazen and three unidentified police officers as plaintiffs. The core allegation was that an officer targeted Roberts because he was leading a demonstration demanding police accountability amid the recent killings of Black and Brown people by police, including the May 2020 murder of George Floyd by police in Minneapolis. The demonstration also served as a counter-protest against a rally supporting police and President Donald Trump’s reelection bid.The Denver City Council approved the settlement agreement on Monday afternoon. It was the latest in a series of payments the council has approved to resolve legal claims tied to Denver...Upon Further Review: Broncos left points on the field in critical red zone situation

Throughout Russell Wilson’s somber news conference after Denver’s 17-16 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders on Sunday, he kept echoing that the team was one or two plays away from winning its season opener.Yes, Denver’s penalties, special teams issues and defensive miscues down the stretch received most of the criticism. But the offense left points on the field, especially in a critical red zone situation early in the fourth quarter. With 10:19 to go in regulation, running back Samaje Perine bulldozed through the Raiders defense for a 12-yard run to Las Vegas’ 8-yard line. Suddenly, Denver stopped pounding the rock. Wilson’s pass to tight end Adam Trautman was short of the goal line. His throw to wide receiver Brandon Johnson was broken up by Raiders linebacker Divine Deablo, who could’ve intercepted the pass.Wilson’s third pass didn’t even have a chance, as he soared the ball out of bounds after getting pressured by Maxx Crosby. Denver settled for a 24-yard field goal from kicker Wil Lutz...Bystanders step in when man exposes himself on Hollywood Walk of Fame

By Eric Tucker and Alanna Durkin Richer | Associated PressWASHINGTON — Lawyers for Donald Trump on Monday asked the federal judge presiding over his election subversion case in Washington to recuse herself, saying her past public statements about the former president and his connection to the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol call into question whether she can be fair. The recusal motion from Trump’s lawyers takes aim at U.S. District Judge Tanya Chutkan, a former assistant public defender who was nominated to the bench by President Barack Obama and has stood out as one of the toughest punishers of Jan. 6 defendants. The request is a long shot given the high threshold for recusal and because the decision on whether to recuse belongs to Chutkan, who is unlikely to see cause to step aside from the case.Even so, the request that she give up the high-stakes trial marks the latest flashpoint in already delicate relations between the defense team and the judge, who has repeatedl...Vehicle driver still sought in hit-and-run death of Hayward bicyclist
